Here's what's going on at the White House today.         DAILY SNAPSHOT Saturday, October 25, 2014             Featured Weekly Address: Focused on the Fight Against Ebola In this week's address, the President discussed the measures we are taking to respond to Ebola cases at home, while containing the epidemic at its source in West Africa. This week, we continued to focus on domestic preparedness, with the creation of new CDC guidelines and the announcement of new travel measures ensuring all travelers from the three affected countries are directed to and screened at one of five airports. The President emphasized that it's important to follow the facts, rather than fear, as New Yorkers did yesterday when they stuck to their daily routine. Ebola is not an easily transmitted disease, and America is leading the world in the fight to stamp it out in West Africa. Click here to watch this week's Weekly Address.       Top Stories A "We the People" Meetup On September 22, 2011, we launched We the People -- an online platform that gives Americans an innovative way to petition their government. To celebrate its third birthday, we invited Americans from across the country to participate in a We the People Meetup right here at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Meetup participants toured the White House and then spent the afternoon at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where they discussed their experience using the petitions platform and heard from senior Administration officials. READ MORE Protecting Consumers' Financial Security Last Friday, the President signed an Executive Order to help protect consumers' financial security and improve confidence in the marketplace. President Obama highlighted that millions of Americans suffer from credit card fraud and identity theft each year, and tens of millions have had their data breached in the last year alone. The Executive Order will help protect American consumers by: Assisting victims of identity theft Improving the government's payment security, as a customer and a provider Accelerating the transition to stronger security technologies and the development of next-generation payment security tools One key new action is the implementation of Chip and PIN technology to make card transactions more secure. With Chip and PIN technology, credit, debit, and other payment cards will contain embedded microchips instead of magnetic strips, and face-to-face transactions will require consumers to type their personal identification number (PIN), just like ATM cards.
